The freight-only airline has announced that this ban will extend to Cargolux Italia and comes in response to “growing concern about the adverse effects of these products on both public health and the environment”.
Cargolux said that disposable e-cigarettes are a “significant risk” to human health, especially for younger people who are lured by appealing flavours. The company points out that these items carry lithium batteries, which are a hazard to the environment when not disposed of correctly, as they cannot be recycled. Bans have already been enacted in several countries regarding these products.
Cargolux president and chief executive Richard Forson said: “The ban on transporting disposable electronic cigarettes reflects Cargolux’s commitment to the environment and public health and safety. With this action, we hope to contribute to reducing the availability of these products on the market. As a responsible corporate citizen, Cargolux aims for this initiative to encourage other logistics operators to adopt similar measures.”
Disposable e-cigarettes have now joined a growing list of items that Cargolux refuses to carry for ethical reasons across its global network.
